About Which?local

Why is Which? recommending local services?

We’re not. Which? have not and cannot test them, so we aren’t recommending them.

Which?, the Office of Fair Trading, and the motoring and building industries emphasise the importance of getting recommendations from other customers when choosing a service, as such, the site was created.

Does Which? vet/approve/commend the listings?

No. The recommendations come solely from Which? members. Which? accepts no responsibility for their comments. We verify the address and contact details and monitor the content for inappropriate language but do not vet the comments.

How much does it cost me to be a member of Which?local

The service is free to current members of Which?.

Does Which? moderate the site?

Which? checks the postings for use of language and to ensure they meet our terms and conditions but we don’t check any of the services.

Do Which?Local receive money from companies featured on the site?

Which?Local receives no money from services recommended.

Sign-in and Passwords

How do I change my user name and password?

Click on ‘My account’, then ‘change details’. It’s helpful if you maintain the same ‘alias’ name so that people can follow your recommendations.

I've forgotten my login and/or password?

Please click on ‘forgot password’ and we’ll email you a reminder.

I’ve already logged into Which.co.uk, why do I need a separate email to log in to W?Local?

This is a relatively new service for Which? and this means that users have to log in separately for this service.

Why do I need a nickname, alias, nom-de-plume?

We don’t want to publish personal details, but would like to give users an identity.

Recommendations and reviews

How do I make a recommendation?

Click on ‘make a recommendation’ and complete our recommendation wizard. If you want to comment on a service provider, click on “comment on this trader”

I can't find a recommendation I made, what's happened to it?

Recommendations are not posted immediately because of our filtering process. Which?Local also reserves the right to remove any posting for any reason, please email us with any enquiries.

This is a bogus recommendation - how do I get it removed?

We hope that the recommendations on the site are genuine and reflect the service received from real customers. But if you experience a problem, please post a comment.

Can I recommend traders by phone or letter?

Unfortunately, no. We have to restrict it to an internet service. We welcome your thoughts on how else we could improve Which?Local.

The service provided was excellent, can I add this feedback to your site.

Yes. You can help Which? members by making a recommendation about companies offering a good service.

How can I change a recommendation that I've posted?

If you are unhappy with a recommendation that you’ve posted, you can send us an email requesting a change, quoting your Which?ID, the Trader name and Category.

How do I view recommendations?

The left-hand browser finds particular services and allows you to view recommendation details for each sector.

I can’t find a recommendation for a service I need. Can I advertise for it?

Yes. If you can’t find any recommendations for a service, please click on To find a service and we’ll post a question on the site.

Why do I need to enter a postcode to make a recommendation?

Postcodes help us identify traders and ensure their details are correct. The site also uses a proximity search to show the distance between your own postcode and the trader’s. If you don’t know the postcode, please make the recommendation with as many details as possible and we’ll try and find the trader.

Why can’t I post a negative review?

We’d like to encourage readers to post recommendations so that members can pick the companies offering a good service. It isn’t about criticising bad companies. However if you’re unfortunate enough to have had a bad experience with one of the recommended companies, please post a comment to tell others and let us know.

Traders

I don't agree with one of the recommendations, is there anything Which?Local or I can do to change that?

The website only features traders which have been recommended by a Which? member, but please report any serious concerns about a particular trader to us.

The contact details for this trader are incorrect? How do I contact them?

Please report incorrect details using the relevant link.

Are Which? recommended traders allowed to advertise the fact on their stationary and websites?

No. The comments and recommendations reflect the experiences of Which?Local users, not Which?. The companies named on this site are prohibited from advertising that they have been recommended on Which?Local. If you witness this, please report it.

I am a trader, how do I get on your site?

Which?Local does not allow traders to post recommendations about themselves.

Your details

Can I change my default postcode area?

Why do you want my email address?

We’d like to contact you with news about the site. For example we’re planning a few improvements to the website and we’d like to ask for your views on the site. Readers can also post questions to help find reliable services - for example ‘Does anyone a know a good roofer?’ - we’d like to be able to send you an email with these types of questions.
